Physiotherapy

As professionals, physiotherapists are experts at providing physiotherapy treatment for:

  • Preventing injury and disability;

  • Managing acute and chronic conditions;

  • Improving and maintaining optimal physical performance;

  • Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability;

  • Educating patients to prevent re-occurrence of an injury.

Each session with our physiotherapists is unique, because it depends on the client’s health issues and needs. However, a visit to our physiotherapists generally includes:

  • Learning about the patient’s medical history;

  • Assessing and diagnosing the patient’s condition and needs;

  • Helping the patient set and reach physical goals;

  • Creating a treatment plan that accounts for patient’s health, lifestyle and activities;

  • Prescribing a course of exercises and necessary devices.

If you are experiencing issues with movement or function or are just seeking to optimize your health, why not check out a trusted resource like a professional physiotherapist. Along with the treatment details listed above our physiotherapists utilize a number of different modalities in order to provide effective treatment to our patients.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management. Acupuncture points can help to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue and is often used for the complementary treatment of chronic pain, migraines, and headaches.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. Practitioners place the needles in “trigger points” in your muscle or tissue. Dry needling is also sometimes called intramuscular stimulation. Dry needling may provide relief for some muscular pain and stiffness. In addition, easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase range of motion. That’s why this method is often used to treat sports injuries, muscle pain, and even fibromyalgia pain.

Interferential Current (IFC) Therapy

Interferential current (IFC) therapy is an effective therapy option used by physiotherapists to relieve pain and accelerate the self-healing process, getting your body back to a healthy, pain free state. The high frequency signals of an IFC penetrate through the skin into deeper lying muscle tissues.

Frequencies produced by IFC have been proven to stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers. This can help to create a self-healing process without the need to for medications. This form of therapy is also extremely useful in reducing pain, inflammation, and spasms, while improving tissue mobility and coordination.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves generated by a transducer head (which looks a bit like a microphone) to penetrate soft tissues. The transmission of sound waves cause microscopic vibrations in deep tissue molecules, increasing heat and friction. The warming effect encourages healing in soft tissues by increasing metabolism at the cellular level. Ultrasound therapy can be used for myofascial (connective tissue) pain, strains, or sprains.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a science of healing which places an emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body. It relies on manual contact for structural diagnosis and treatment. Osteopathy is a client-centered, rather than a disease-centered, form of health care.

Osteopathic practitioners utilize a wide-variety of therapeutic manual techniques dictated by their understanding of osteopathic principles and the structural individuality of each client. Through manual manipulation, osteopathic practitioners are able to influence all areas of the body in order to optimize the body's intrinsic self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms. Osteopathic manipulative treatment is used as a means of facilitating these normal mechanisms by addressing areas of tissue strain, stress or dysfunction that may impede normal neural, vascular, or lymphatic flow.

Our practitioners are all highly-educated in the study of Classical Osteopathy. They provide treatment based on their understanding of Osteopathic principles and not individual techniques. As such, the way in which they assess their patients and integrate patient management, duration, frequency, and choice of technical application, are distinctive aspects of their practice.
